This is based on the true premise that a comparatively small number of words and phrases will make up most of the words you will encounter. What makes this book good is the sample sentence given for each word.. They are modern, useful, frequently heard or read, and memorable. However, this book is not a dictionary. It doesn't even have an alphabetical index to the words so you will need to use your Kindle's find function to look up anything. Fine if you have a Paperwhite but useless for older models like the Keyboard. The translations are German to English but since you have to use Find anway that doesn't matter. The Themed words, other than the computer words, are not impressive. It is words, not phrases and there isn't even a travel vocabulary list. There is a very short grammar primer at the back and a list of German Cognates (a list of False Friends would have been much more useful). Treat the Useful Words section as something to read through rather than a reference and I would say this book is worth its current price but not more.

I found this to be an excellent book both for revising familiar words and learning new ones. I particularly like the method of incorporating the word into a meaningful sentence, first in German and then in English. This makes learning in context so much easier.

Well laid out and very useful word list with good example phrases.

The alphabetical layout of this book is back-to-front. It lists the German words alphabetically rather than the English. In this way it becomes less useful as an aid to speech since when you suddenly find yourself in need of a German word this book will leave you unable to immediately locate the familiar English counterpart and through this find the German equivalent. As a general help with learning I find it no more than average since my German/English dictionary does the same job and gives me many more words... and in an English A to Z format.
